In Memoriam

This is a page we wish we didn't have. And yet without it, the site would not be complete. As a community, we look to the future - for our community, for our families, and for our country. But as a community, we also mourn for those we have lost.

David Marcus

Occasionally, while stomping a peaceful path, we come to crossroads where destiny changes and we are challenged to look to the future with a different perspective. The choices at these crossroads of life are not simple to make because you find that no experience you have had has even remotely covered these situations and there are many directions to turn to.
I wish I could tell you now that I have all the answers to all of your questions, and to mine, but I sincerely don't. All I can say is that the only thing that is clear to me is the belief that the path ahead is radically new and leads to places I had never dreamed of going to until now.
               -- David Marcus, August, 2003

David was many things to many people. He was friend and mentor, valued colleague, dedicated employee, respected manager, and so much more. Above all, though, he was a beloved father and husband. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he viewed it as a challenge, a strange turn in the road of life. He met the battle with incredible courage and hope, and seemed to be the one who would beat the odds, the one who would make it through. In the end, too soon, Pamela and their children lost him. He leaves behind many lives he touched, and many many lives he made better simply for the joy of having known him.

May Pamela and the family know no more sorry and may we all remember David's courage, his integrity, his sense of humor and how much he gave of himself to his family, to his friends, to the technical writing community and to his country. Read more about David.

Tsvi Goldstein

picture of tsvi

This page began with the loss of Tsvi Goldstein, a dear member of our community who was murdered the day after his son's wedding. Tsvi represented the best of our community - always willing to help others, always ready with a smile and an answer. Tsvi had the unique honor of marrying off two of his children in the same year and was looking forward to becoming a grandfather. At one point, someone on Techshoret called for list members to donate blood...and Tsvi was one of the first to answer the call, "we all do what mitzvot we can" he wrote in an email. He was, essentially and simply, a good man.

Shortly after his death, his beloved wife Michal wrote to us and we asked her to write about Tsvi and send pictures. This is her dedication to Tsvi, and we thank her for her effort, in spite of her pain, to help us remember him.

May she and her family know no more sorrow and may we all remember the humor, the goodness, the generosity of a special man. Read more about Tsvi.

David Wolicki

picture of davidOur community has lost another dear member with the sudden death of David Wolicki. He was a rising star in our community, someone willing to give of his knowledge and his patience. He was so young. He was so smart. Many of us will remember him for his quick smile, his witty comments, and his interest in the technical writing community. But there was so much about David that many of us didn't know. As is too often the case, some learned about David only after we had lost him. We didn't know that he was an artist, a perfectionist who created amazing works of beauty. There was so much we didn't know, but what we did know was that he was always there with a smile to brighten the room and help you see the light side of things that just moments before seemed so serious.

David presented at the first STC convention and at several community events. He shared his knowledge, his opinions, his sense of humor and his smiles.

May his family know no more sorrow. Read more about David.
